Sharing Leadership Stories
The big idea is this: each of us who commit to lead must tell our Leadership Story, including the pain--the stories of where our personal values come from. Please take a moment, if you can, to reread the attached document from Marshall Ganz.
The note below was sent to a group of leaders in a real community who were trying to transform the US health care system in their county.
.
I have repeatedly reviewed and reflected upon your stories, as you told them. They are very compelling. It makes me want to follow you and work with you! These stories, told again and again by you in public will enlist others in your cause. Particularly if you invite others to tell their leadership stories along side you.
The video clips of each of your stories are available for your review and we will edit anything out if you like and, as you like; including destroying the original if you wish. I sincerely hope that is not your wish. It will be real loss.
We will never use them in any form without your review and your written permission.
We hope to collect more leadership stories from YYY and ZZZ and ultimately beyond XXX—with your partners and patients.
We are confident that the themes and perspectives from these personal leadership stories can be collected and organized repeatedly to support the culture of leadership that XXX is pioneering in XXXX County. This may become the start of a documentary production of XXXs journey, which is historic and can engage others who you need to join you and support you with policy and funding.
We used fairly basic video and sound equipment for this firsts step into leadership story telling. We intend to improve the quality of video and sound equipment. We will engage professional level advisors and editors as we go forward.
