There are numerous variations and extensions of Christopher Alexanders original pattern from use in A Pattern Language in the 70's.
From Mehaffy's A New Pattern Language: # Iconic name # Representative (contextual) photo # Links to previous patterns # Problem-statement # Conclusion ("therefore statement") # Discussion # Links to subsequent patterns
.
How can I integrate the magic number five Syntegration and # When? # Where? # Why? # Who? # How? # What? with Patterns and Pattern Languages?
If this sequence (pattern) were used routinely in documenting patterns it would strengthen the practice Systemic Problem Solving.
Perhaps Patterns are pre answers to What?
Pattern Languages are pre answers to How?
The syntax of the language is the systemic relationships (connections) between patterns.
The Problem Statement may address When? Where? Who? How? and even What?
The Conclusion ("therefore statement") is a generic answer to the What? question. The conclusion is a general recipe for getting something done. It is a maker's heuristic for producing a good result. So it probably is the bridge between How does it work? and What will we do now?
The Discussion addresses the questions: When? Where? Why? Who? and How?
.
I must integrate the other key tools: Each of Vester's 9 tools. Syntegration VSM / Linkage Mapping Graphing and Neo4j AIC Ostrom's Institutional Analysis tool
Since I believe that the When----What nested questions are the most inclusive and systemic approach to problem solving, I expect each of these tools to support answering one or more of these questions. Then we would have a coherent approach to using the varied tools. We would have a Comprehensive Systemic Tool Set.
