When people say they "love" something, all I do is look to see if that is how they spend their time. Years ago I realized that functionally, I love, invest myself in, what I do. I quit claiming to love people or things I failed to spend time and attention on.
Love, in a more philosophical, psychological, and biological sense is openness.
