Holos Project

Greetings colleagues, Marc invited me to share my thinking about the Holos Project and it’s contribution to global transformation.

Here goes: 1. The Holos-Earth Project exists in order to assist the seeding a new civilisation. Multiple scenarios are offered about our shared human trajectory. Many of them view imminent disruption to our existing ‘systems’ - whether by agency of climate change, cosmic radiation effects, shifts in human consciousness, technology, further pandemics, or geopolitical conflict. Some predict a severe decimation of the human population. The timeframe for such apocalyptic disruption seems to range from the next 30 - 40 years. Marcus Link’s ‘Epoch Framework', apparently stimulated a statement by the late Lawrence Bloom that we are not in an era of change, but a change of era, is powerful. Simplistically put (Marcus articulates this more eloquently) it’s a progression in consciousness from the ere of MYTHOS (the animistic world of spirit forms directing our destiny) to THEOS (the era of monotheism, to LOGOS (the current era of technology) to an emergent era of HOLOS (which we are currently attempting to describe). Significantly, rather than discarding ‘leaving the preceding era’s behind’ (as LOGOS apparently attempted to do) HOLOS will synthesise them into a holistic dynamical framework of consciousness that enfolds past into an emergent future. So the Holos-Earth Project seeks to apprehend, access, comprehend and enliven-in-action Holos consciousness to seed the new civilisation. That is the function, in my imagination, of the Holos Order. 2. The Holos-Earth Project exists to initiate a renewed and overdue generative dialogue between science and philosophy in order to advance an empowering human narrative.. For Jan Smuts, originator of the holistic concept, such a conversation could expand the narrow materialistic paradigm of science (physicalism) into one of a deeper and more empowering metaphysics of human emergence. The Scientific and Medical Network’s contention of creating a space ‘…where deep inner knowing meets evidence-based reason’ begins to address this intention. That was the intention of our recent invitation to David Lorimer, program director of the SMN. This is the function, again in my imagination, of the Holos Institute - I’m seeing a triangular dialogue between a) ’intuitive spirit, b) scientific reason, and c) meaning-making philosophy - to inform the future of our human engagement and co-creation with the evolutionary creative process of holism. Here I dream is a significant Conference in 2031, the centenary celebration of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, in which at the time Smuts offered a ground-breaking address: “The Scientific World Picture of Today’, as President in 1931. And this apparently stimulated Einstein to suggest that two thought constructs would dominate the 21st century - his ‘Relativity’ and Smuts’ ‘Holism’. We have tentatively opened this conversation with the Scientific and Medical Network and have had an intimation that they would like to see a relationship between Holos, the SMN and the Galileo Commission. 3. The Holos-Earth Project exists to practice appropriate ‘Advocacy’ and ‘Activism'. I’m seeing in the Holos Order triangular configuration of Spirit, Science and Philosophy with the ‘Institute’ a Holos Global Council to take a public stand on advocacy on activism - to speak truth to power - to engage with wicked problems - but to do so with compassion for the process of human becoming in all its messiness. · Speaking truth to power. · Being willing to engage with wicked problems - not to have ready answers - but to ’take them on’. · Without blame and judgement taking co-ownership of the conditions we as collective humanity have generated and are now called to address. · With courage to act on our personal convictions and transparency to acknowledge our uncertainties and confusions. 4. The Holos-Earth Project exists to offer education and training in holistic perspective and practice to a growing public readiness. This will be about advanced information-dissemination (Holos Publishing), education and training. (I have a thought document of a proto-training program in holistic thinking and practice.) We have provisionally identified eight generative themes: * Human Becoming - integrating spirituality, mysticism, depth psychology and the new physics, etc. * Education and the Re-Localisation of Creativity - restoring agency to individuals and communities, etc. Here we have a living and vital connection with the See-the-Systems (StS) education initiative. * Governance - exploring the potential implementation the Holacratic governance idea at local, regional, national and international levels, etc. * Economics - exploring the regenerative usage of natural and human resources - i.e. the Holonomic idea, circular economy, etc. * Agriculture and Food Production - Holistic Land Management of the Savory Institute is deeply researched and applied in this field, etc. * Wellbeing - a re-examination of what ‘being well’ looks like in a dynamical environment of transition from the bio-psychosocial perspective - holistic medicine beyond ‘alternative therapies’. * Art, Aesthetics and Ethics - re-examining how the artist is accessing ontological truth dimension relative to the epoch - and how that can serve to highlight ethics. * The Digital Dimension - examining the role and ethics of AI-driven technology in human becoming and holistic evolution. This is my imagination is the function of the Holos Academy. Author Jeremy Lent’s offered training would no doubt resort here. 5. The Holos-Earth Project exists to offer a collaborative support network to holistic practitioners in various fields of application and to Curate and Disseminate their experience and learning. I envisage a Conference in 2026 where, in celebration of the 100th year of the publishing of ‘Holism and Evolution’ in 1926, practitioners come together to share and celebrate their insights, successes, failures, learnings, in applying the holistic perspective and practice in their various fields. This might be an international event with various localities - connected digitally, with real-time site visits to projects. Their work will be seen as ‘research in process’ to be curated and examined scientifically, philosophically, spiritually and taken forward to the great convocation of 2031. This, in my imagination, is the function of the Holos Alliance - a potential ‘network of networks’. Deep regards, Claudius
