Conflict

Conflict is normal. Different people and groups in different situations will have different preferences.

Decision making is about dealing with conflict.

Cybernetics and Ashby's Law of Requisite Variety should have useful perspectives on Managing Conflict.

Olaf: * Define (Conflict]] and Peacefully? For example, handing down a 10% budget target to the System Ones, is that peaceful or aggressive? * Example, a new neighborhood initiative starts to compete with yours. Is that aggressive? Or not? * There is deep thought behind introducing these concepts, but do we need them at this point? * Peaceful way of working should perhaps go to S5 (identity) or S3/4 (policies), in stead of being part of S1? * Olaf/2020/11/02 13:21 ======== I think it is very useful to raise and answer these questions about the nature and dynamics of conflict and peace. Conflict is normal and essential. War (lack of peace) is not normal nor essential and we should use system models that aim to reduce the likelihood of war. I think that the VSM, especially when use in a co-op setting is the best way to manage diversity (conflict) without war. There was an idea of "catch ball" between levels in businesses where resources and responsibilities were iteratively negotiated. As soon at the upper level is not made up of the lower level, when it is inhabited by foreigners, it is more likely to be aggressive, domineering, and potentially non-viable relationship. The homeostatic between the meta system and operations is the most critical set of relationships on the day to day operation of the whole. Marc: November 6, 2020, 12:13 PM
