The __Black Hat__ symbolises judgement - the devil's advocate or why something may not work. Spot the difficulties and dangers; where things might go wrong. Probably the most powerful and useful of the six hats but a problem if overused.
With optimism and realism considered, then I like to shift to a Green Hat to generate new ideas for products, services, programs, projects, processes. Some people prefer to leave the Black Hat for the end of the process but I find that skepticism is best dealt with early and kept in sight.
