Neighborhood life takes care of enormous complexity--most of the complexity of living since the people live in neighborhoods as households taking care of their home economies. Mayors do not plan nor cook your supper. So... How do people get stuff done at home and in between homes, on the street as it were? How to coordinate our action with others, in the household and on the street? How to find opportunities to cooperate? How to find time to create shared futures? How to Create Our Local Cultures that support our chosen ways of living together? How important are the Places Where We Meet?
Here are some tentative thoughts on Visually Discovering (Seeing) the answers to these neighborhood questions:
1. Making the borders, Inside and Outside explicit--visible for all to see and discuss. 2. Making the Parts explicit--visible for all to see and discuss. 3. Making (trusting?) Relationships explicit--visible for all to see and discuss. 4. Making shared Ideals explicit--visible for all to see and discuss. 5. Making potentially conflicting Values and priorities explicit--visible for all to see and discuss. 6. Making active Goals explicit--visible for all to see and discuss. 7. Making neighborhood Principles and Norms explicit--visible for all to see and discuss.
